As we set out to implement our brand new strategic plan, CHEO is seeking its first General Counsel to deliver the guidance, leadership and sound legal advice necessary to support our continued growth. Reporting to the Vice President, People, Strategy & Performance, and providing legal advice directly to the Board of Directors and the President & CEO, the incumbent will design, establish and lead CHEO’s first internal legal services function. Leading a small team but working collaboratively with partners from across the entire organization, the General Counsel will promote the highest standards of legal services through the development and continuous improvement of policies, procedures and programs in areas of health and privacy law, contracts execution and management, and corporate governance.

As an experienced and accomplished legal professional, the successful candidate will ideally have a strong background in providing in-house corporate counsel and in health privacy law. This solid foundation will serve the incumbent well in supporting CHEOs organizational strategy and in being a trusted resource for our patients and families, staff and physicians, and leadership. She/he will be comfortable working in an extremely dynamic environment and in building a function from the ground-up. CHEO’s inaugural General Council will be relied upon to combine diverse and strong legal and policy expertise with business acumen and outstanding relationship management skills. Ability to communicate in both official languages is a definite asset.
